It has been speculated and assumed that the final installment of the The Hunger Games Trilogy, Mockingjay will be split in two films. And Lionsgate has confirmed it by announcing the release dates of Mockingjay Part 1 & 2. E! Online reports:
Like Harry Potter (which split The Deathly Hallows in two) and Twilight (whose Breaking Dawn became a two parter) before it, Mockingjay will be released as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2, with a year separating their releases.
Part 1 is set to hit theaters Nov. 21, 2014, with Part 2 arriving Nov. 20, 2015. (It was previously announced thatCatching Fire, which goes into production this fall, will hit theaters Nov. 22, 2013.)
Thoughts? What do you feel about splitting Mockingjay? Any guesses where they will split it?
The Hunger Games DVD/Blu-ray Release Date & Special Features
EW announced that The Hunger Games DVD will be released in the US on August 18, 2012. It is safe to assume that we will have the same release date (or a day earlier or later). We will announce as soon as we confirm the Philippine release date.
They also released more information regarding the special features:
The two-disc set will include over three hours of unreleased material, with features that provide insight into how the film was made, interviews with the cast and crew, and details about some of the story lines that differed from the book — like President Snow’s character (Donald Sutherland) and the role of the game maker (Wes Bentley). An eight-part documentary entitled The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games delves into the behind-the-scenes aspect of creating the film. The extras also include the full-length “Propaganda Film” shown during the Reaping.

Thoughts??
Catching Fire Director:
Lions Gate, which said at the time that it was sorry Mr. Ross had chosen not to direct the film, is now close to a deal with Francis Lawrence, whose previous projects include “I Am Legend” and “Constantine,” according to people familiar with the matter.
Catching Fire Script:
But the studio has yet to finalize a script, now being written by “Slumdog Millionaire” writer Simon Beaufoy. The author of the series, Suzanne Collins, will have input, as she did with the script for the first film.
“I would call it a collaborative effort,” said Rob Friedman, Lions Gate motion picture group co-chair, referring to Ms. Collins’s participation. “Suzanne has always been very, very involved.”
The Hunger Games DVD release:
Due to the first film’s exceptional box office performance, the studio is considering pushing the DVD release to five months after its theatrical opening, as opposed to the usual four-month window, according to people familiar with the matter. That time frame would also allow it to take advantage of back-to-school momentum in the retail environment.
